Vases I Love: from funky to wonderful and everything in between
I love a lil’ trinket. (That would actually be a pretty good artist name should I ever pursue music… Lil’ Trinket. NOBODY STEAL THAT.)
But really, I DO love a trinket. When I talk about personalizing a home or adding whimsy, so much of it comes down to the small, unexpected, collected pieces that bring you joy.
So if there’s one takeaway from this post, it’s: BUY THE LITTLE STUFF THAT BRINGS YOU JOY. You’ll thank me later.
Which brings me to vases.
I was recently working on a dining room for a client I love, and I bought her a fern for a little corner that needed some fluffy green goodness. Unfortunately, I bought a fern approximately the size of a small horse.
It was WAY too big.
So when I went to photograph the room, I didn’t have the right piece for the little corner table. Naturally, I started superimposing vases into the photo. And then I couldn’t pick one. So I put eight in there.
That little exercise reminded me how much personality you can add to a room with something as simple as a vase. A little color. A weird shape. Something handmade. Something vintage. Something that just makes you happy. You don’t have to overthink it!!!!
I have pieces at home I’ve bought at a thrift shop simply because I liked them. I have sentimental pieces that remind me of people I love. I have handmade things I’ve been gifted that come with a whole extra layer of love, memories, and joy.
Long story short: buy the trinket.
And now, onto my list of vases - from weird to wonderful to everything in between. (A few are from Facebook Marketplace, so who knows if they’ll still be available. I’m sorry if I tease you with the perfect vase and then it’s already gone.)

The Funky Ones:
HAND VASE: For whenever you need a hand with a lettuce-like-sleeve to hold your flowers. It makes you feel a little weird but oddly comforted.
WOOD VASE: If Pierce & Wards makes it. I will buy it.
The Local Ones:
PEWABIC VASE: everyone should try throwing pottery at least once in their life. It will hopefully give you some perspective and gained appreciation for how hard it is to throw a vessel like this… let alone PUT A PINECONE ON IT!!!!! Anyways, it’s an iconic establishment.
MAD MUD VASE: okay, I know this lady personally. We went to a Mah Johg party together and she showed up like an ethereal goddess in a light pink dress and again… she makes some cool shit with her hands. IT IS NOT EASY AND SHE’S A COOL CHICK!
The Colorful Ones:
YELLOW VASE: what do you mean you want a vase with purple balls on the side?? Okay… ME TOO I GUESS?!?!?
GREEN VASE: I don’t know what you’d call this shape, or the oblong balls attached to the sides. What I do know is that I would happily stick flowers in this.
The Sculptural Ones:
WHITE VASE: I love everything Sarah Sherman Samuel does. I want to do everything SSS does. Except buy a dog. I won’t be buying a dog, but I will be buying her vases.
WOOD VASE: this is labeled from the seller as “Vintage Hand Carved Wooden Bird Vase | Colombian Folk Art Wood Vessel”. So I’m not going to add more to that. Except that I like it and it’s cool.
The Ones At The Bottom Of The List That I Like But I Ran Out Of Names For:
GLASS VASE: this is a vase I would literally put in any home, on any shelf, for any project. It’s versatile and sweet and simple.
DOTTED VASE: I would buy this and then tell people I unearthed it from a Grecian dig I went on as a child. (Lying like this is okay. Lying like DT does is NOT.)
