CKCO PORTFOLIO - Partial Designs

In case you hadn’t already pinned this one down, the reason I’ve named this service as “partial” is because the execution ownership falls on the client - but the upfront discovery work, the digging into desired functionality, the aesthetic understanding, the creative compilation… that’s still on me baby. And I LOVE partial designs because I still get to have a heavy hand in understanding my client and delivering them a template to help create the spaces of their dreams!

DETROIT, MICHIGAN: LIVING ROOM

The focus of this project was to honor both the historic character of the home and the deeply personal elements my client brought to it. She has an incredible eye for design and a collection that reflects it—family heirlooms, custom sketches of Jean-Michel Basquiat, and pieces that carry real personal history. Paired with the home’s beautifully preserved original features, the design direction became a thoughtful balance of old and new. Our goal was to give her aesthetic the same level of presence as the architectural charm that was already there, allowing both to shine without competing. Also her dog Petey is a really nice lady and when she’s in trouble, she’s called “Peter” and I think that’s a really important aside.

BLOOMFIELD, MI: BASEMENT BEDROOM

When a basement bedroom needs help, gets no natural light, and needs to be used as an inviting space for out-of-town guests - you don’t pretend to make it something it’s not. And by that I mean, it’s not a bright and sunny space - so don’t try to make it one! The best plan of action for my clients (who stated they only liked coastal and farmhouse vibes) was to add in some vertical ship-lap boards to the wall, color drench everything in a slated blue, get really warm wood furniture to soften it.. and then invest heavily in accent lights. What does that get you? A space that feels like a secret speakeasy but maybe we’ll just rebrand it.. it’s a sleep easy. OOOOOOO like what I did there?!

NAPLES, FLORIDA: CHILDREN’S ROOM

For this virtual project in Naples, Florida, the goal was to create a space that nodded to the beach without ever feeling theme-y or overly literal. The room was designed for four children—ages eight and under—so it needed to function beautifully for them today, while also having the longevity to grow with them over the next 15 years. Instead of leaning into obvious coastal décor, the design focused on softer cues: sun-washed colors, natural textures, and subtle coastal references that feel sophisticated rather than on-the-nose. Every selection balanced durability with design, ensuring the room could handle energetic play now and still feel intentional and inviting as the kids mature. The result is a space that feels bright, layered, and comfortably coastal—never kitschy, always timeless.
