Spacial Blueprint Instructions

Start by anchoring yourself in one specific spot and draw out the outline of the room (I always start in the doorway). It doesn’t matter if you make one wall too long in your drawing - as long as your measurements are correct, that’s all I need!

Then label the windows and doors.

Step One: outline the room

Step Two: think big, then small

Start by measuring out the longest width of each wall (aka this room is 20ft by 16ft).

Next, work your way around the room and provide specific measurements for each wall when applicable.

Ex. the 20ft wall is made up of a 15ft wall, a doorway, then 22” of wall space to the right. Provide width and height measurements for doors.

Step Three: repeat step two

Continue around the room until you’ve mapped out all walls, windows and doors.

Windows measurements should include width, window height, and then the distance between the floor and the bottom of the windowsill. I indicate the last bit by “OG” (off ground).

Step Four: finishing touches

Once you’ve mapped out the full room, be sure to indicate the following pieces:

  • Electrical outlet locations (doesn’t have to be specific, just general idea as to where they are). These are indicated in pink on my blueprint as a circle with two lines.

  • Ceiling height

  • Ceiling fan/light dimensions if applicable

  • Baseboard height if applicable

  • Indicate placement for any HVAC units
